Asha Carmody (Walther)
Founder | Director | Forensic/Criminological Specialist
Asha is the Founder and Executive Director of Exhuming the Truth Hope Project Ltd. With qualifications in Biomedical Science, Forensic Biology and Toxicology, and Criminology (majoring in Crime Science), Asha has spent more than 8 years developing expertise across forensic science, criminal justice, and victim advocacy. Her experience spans case analysis, autopsy review, missing persons investigations, and public education through her work as the host of the Exhuming the Truth podcast. Her professional journey has included international work with the Futuresense Foundation in Palampur, India, where she contributed to projects addressing gender equality and cybercrime. She also progressed from her time as student member to Team Leader within the ICCAP (International Cold Case Analysis Project), supporting cold case and missing persons initiatives, including work relating to cases in Germany and across Europe.
After acquiring a disability at work at a young age, Asha encountered significant barriers to participation within the forensic and investigative sectors. Rather than allowing those challenges to define her career, she sought out innovative and acccessible opportunities, undertaking government-funded specialist training in emerging forensic fields including forensic digital art, no-body homicide investigations and the use of advanced technologies such as aquatic drones in search and recovery operations.
Asha is a professional member of ANZSOC and has built her own forensic consulting and advocacy practice focused on supporting individuals and families navigating complex criminal justice processes including working in crime prevention with programs for children. Her commitment to this work is deeply personal following her own experience of a prolonged legal battle she believes highlighted systemic shortcomings within the Australian justice system. From this she became determined to use her knowledge to support others facing similar adversity. Asha's vision for the charity is to create meaningful change by combining forensic science, advocacy, community engagement and innovation to ensure that no family is left without support and no case is forgotten.
